Let’s Talk Local Business: Coffee, Challenges & City Solutions

Running a business in Edmonton shouldn’t mean navigating it alone.

On May 24 at BE Coffee, Nicholas Rheubottom is inviting local business owners in the Ward AND City-Wide to a focused roundtable about how the City can continue improving the way it supports small businesses.

This is a space for open, constructive conversation—about what's working, what challenges are still being felt on the ground, and where the City might not yet have the full picture. Nicholas is running for City Council with a commitment to making Edmonton the best city in Canada for small business—and that starts with listening.

We’ll talk about real-world experiences, including:

  • Construction impacts on visibility and customer access

  • Rising costs for materials, insurance, and utilities

  • Labour shortages and hiring challenges

  • Crime, safety, and storefront security

  • Tax pressures and affordability concerns

  • Competing with online platforms and shifting consumer habits

  • Navigating City permits—especially change-of-use, signage, and patio approvals

  • Lack of ready land or space for small-scale industrial growth

Why attend?
This is your chance to bring real-world insights directly into City conversations. Whether you're navigating storefront challenges or scaling a small operation, your voice helps shape smarter policy. Nicholas wants to hear from you, share his approach, and ensure local business stays at the center of Edmonton’s future.
